Fancy a beginners outing with a Cycle Club?

South Western Road Club (SWRC) is starting rides for absolute beginners from Saturday 9th July. Confirmed dates so far for these rides are: 9th,16th,23rd and 30th July and 13th, 20th, 27th August.

They will start at 9.30am from Cobham car park on Downside Road, opposite Waitrose. Road, Hybrid, MTB, all types of bikes and rider are welcome and the group will ride around the lanes south of Cobham at the pace of the slowest rider. The mileage will be 20miles or less and there will be a stop for tea and cake.

14 year olds accompanied by a parent also welcome, also any vintage bike owner who wants a social ride.

Should you fancy a faster or longer ride there are have 5 other groups meeting at Cobham at the same time. Average speeds are: A group 20mph, B+ group 18mph, B group 16mph, C+ group 15mph and C group 14mph. There is also a group that goes out for 3 hours only in the hills called the Uppers and Downers.

Become a cycling instructor

If you love cycling, you might consider becoming a cycling instructor. Whether you would like to make it a full-time job or you just want to pass on some skills at your local school or youth club, undertaking the National Standard Instructor training is the first step.

Kingston is the only London borough recognised as an instructor training organisation (ITO). Since 2007, we have trained more than 300 instructors for local authorities and independent providers.

Cycling is a fantastic way to exercise, travel, and enjoy the great outdoors. Wind in the hair (under your helmet of course), sunglasses on, and a picnic in your bag. However, not everyone sees it this way.
